‘Gender Equality’ discussed at MES College




The Department of Sociology, MES College, Zuarinagar recently inaugurated the activities of the Sociology Study Circle for the academic year 2015-2016. The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Shaila De Souza, In-charge, Centre for Women’s Studies, Goa University.

Dr. Shaila De Souza conducted a session for the students of Sociology on the theme “Gender Equality”. She conducted three exercises to explain the concept of equality and equity and listed coping mechanisms like Group-conscious policies, Affirmative action, Positive discrimination, Attending to group specific needs and Reservation.

The student members were given membership cards during the function. The function began with the welcome address by Vice-Principal Prof. V.V. Sail and was followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest by Prof. Sayali Gaunkar. Prof Mozinha Fernandes presented a report of the former activities of the Sociology Study circle. Prof. Jessy Coutinho coordinated the programme.
