31st Death Anniversary of Bakibaab Borkar Commemorated at MES College

The Department of Konkani, MES College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar commemorated the Death Anniversary of renowned Konkani and Marathi poet, Padmashri Bakibaab Alias BB Borkar, on 8th of July 2015 in the Seminar Hall of the College. President of Goa Konkani Akademi , eminent poet Shri Madhav Borkar was invited as the Chief Guest on this occasion.

The programme commenced with the singing and recitations of some of Bakibaab’s popular poems by the students. The Principal, Dr. R.B. Patil, welcomed the guests and the gathering, shedding light on the significance of the day. He deemed it important that Bakibaab’s works be read engagingly in order to commemorate him. This was followed by the introduction of chief guest by Head, Department of Konkani, Prof. Satyawan Naik. The guests were then offered a floral welcome after which Shri Madhav Borkar paid tribute to Bakibaab by garlanding the great poet’s photograph. Addressing the gathering, Shri Borkar said that Bakibaab was not only a witty poet, but a born genius. Shri Borkar narrated interesting anecdotes of Bakibaab’s life, which made it evident that Bakibaab’s creativity, intellect and humour led him to be a popular personality in his prime and that follows even now. Shri Madhav Borkar also encouraged young budding to keep fanning the flame of poetry within them. After the presentation of memento to the chief guest, Vice Principal Prof. V.V. Sail proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by the faculty member of Department of Konkani, Ms. Supriya Kankumbikar. The department, in collaboration with the college library, had also put up an exhibition of Bakibaab’s books. The function was attended by students of the college and also by the students of MES Higher Secondary School. Prof. B.V. Kolekar, Dr. Sandhya Bhandare,Prof. Vishwanath Swar, Prof. Nikhita Morajkar, Prof. Gorak Sirsat, Prof. Palia Gaonkar  were among the faculty members who attended this programme.
