SPIC MACAY, an
organization known for promoting Indian Art and Culture performed shehnai instrumental
music on 7th July 2015 at MES College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar. Art and
Cultural Association of MES College arranged the programme in association with
Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa. Prof B J Ingalhalli,
Chairman of the Art and Cultural Association introduced the shehnai artists Shri
Ashwani Shankar and Shri Sanjeev Shankar and the significance of the programme.
The artists mesmerized the student and staff audience by their performance.
They were accompanied by Shri Mithilesh Kumar Jha on tabla. In his address to
students, the main shehnai artist Shri Ashwani Shankar explained the
significance of shehnai music in Indian culture. Mentioning some eminent
shehnai players and different names the shehnai instrument has, he explained that
learning and mastering the art of shehnai playing requires immense hard work
and dedication. Principal Dr. R B Patil felicitated the artists at the end of
the performance.
