MES COLLEGE COUNCIL 2015-16 INAUGURATED



The College Council of MES College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar for the academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated recently in the college Seminar Hall. Shri Narayan Navati, Joint Chief Electoral Officer was the Chief Guest on this occasion. In his address, he emphasized the importance of happiness for the welfare of the individual, the community, and the nation. Bodies such as College Council infused and exercised decision making skill of a person. What he deemed most important for a person to be successful, were the blessings of parents, without which one cannot move ahead in life smoothly. 

The function opened with an invocation song by a group of college students. As the President of the College Council, Principal Dr. R.B. Patil delivered the welcome address. Ms. Debangana Ghosh, newly elected Ladies Representative of the College Council, offered floral welcome to the chief guest. Prof. Ashish Joshi, Chairperson of College Council, then introduced the chief guest to the gathering. After the introduction, the College Council was symbolically inaugurated by lighting of the traditional lamp. 

As the Vice President of the College Council, Prof. V.V. Sail addressed the gathering. The newly elected members were then sworn into the College Council by the President of the College Council wherein they had to repeat an oath read out by Dr. R.B. Patil. This was followed by the felicitation of the members of the College Council by presentation of batches by the Chief Guest. The function concluded with the proposal of vote of thanks by the newly elected General Secretary, Mr. Oscar Travasso. The function was attended by the faculty and students of MES College in large numbers. 

The various secretaries of the College Council include: Mr. Oscar Travasso, General Secretary and Cultural Secretary; Ms. Debangana Ghosh, Ladies Representative; Ms. Shweta Thapa, Sports Secretary; Mr. Carl Figueredo, Debating Secretary; Mr. Asad Shah, Literary Secretary and respective Class Representatives and Scholar Members of BA, BCom, BCA and BBA.

IGNITING MINDS FOR A BETTER TOMORROW



M.E.S. College of Arts and Commerce recently inaugurated its first ever Debate Club. The panel on the dais consisted of the chief guest Mr. Ashfaq Shah, businessman and consultant from Vasco, Vice Principal Prof V V Sail, Chairperson of Debate Club Prof Yasser Hussain and Debating Secretary Carl Figueredo

Mr. Ashfaq inspired the students to undertake a thorough research of any subject that is to be debated. He also addressed the fact that we as human beings, at times lack motivation and tend to a state of dormancy, which we must overcome time and again in order to achieve the simplest of our objectives. 

The inauguration ceremony was followed by an elocution competition on the topic “India’s Missile Man- APJ Abdul Kalam". The elocution competition was a humble effort to remember the contributions and life of a true visionary, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Ms. Geneve D'souza secured the first place, Ms Sahila Shaikh secured the second place, whereas the third place was shared by Mr Shivanand Raikar and Mr Mohammed Hussain in this competition.

The Debate Club seeks to provide a platform to discuss various contemporary issues in the society with a view to promote and develop critical thinking and reasoning amongst our youth.

MES College Placement Cell organizes Workshop on Stepping to the Corporate World

The Placement Cell of MES College of Arts and Commerce organized a one day workshop for the students of the College on ‘Stepping to the Corporate World’ recently at the College Seminar Hall. Shri Rajendra Kulkarni from Xplore Consultancy Services, Bangalore, was the resource person for this workshop. It began with introductory remarks from the Principal Dr. R. B. Patil, Vice Principal Shri V V Sail and Chairperson of Placement Cell, Prof. Champa Parab. The workshop was attended by 54 undergraduate students of the College from the streams of Commerce, Arts and Computer Applications.

Throughout the day, Shri Kulkarni trained the students in various skills necessary in the corporate sector. Along with good language and discussion skills, the students were urged to aim high with a persistent positive attitude. They were also given training in aptitude building and art of interview. All this was carried on with the help of small activities. Winner of each activity was given a green card. At the end, the ones with the most green cards were rewarded with medals.

With 32 green cards, Dinesh Saini won the Gold medal, while Abhishek Gupta bagged the Silver medal withm 22 green cards. Rubi Kumar won the Bronze with 17 green cards. Shivanad Raikar, G. V. Ashwini, Seema Dhar and Mahadev won the consolation prizes. The workshop ended with the distribution of certificates to the participants.

Collage Competition Held at MES College



A Collage Competition was organized for B.Com Semester I students by the Commerce Association of the Department of Commerce, MES College of Arts & Commerce, Zuarinagar Goa recently in the college premises. The competition received an overwhelming response and 30 teams consisting of 5 members each participated in the competition. A total of 150 students participated in the contest.

Five themes viz, Digital India, Swachh  Bharat , Swachh Goa, Skilling India- New Entrepreneur, MAKE IN INDIA- Manufacturing Hub, Media –Killing Corruption or Creating chaos and Save Girl Child were given to the students and they had to prepare a chart/poster within the time allotted on any of the themes given.

Students made use of pictures, clippings/cuttings from old newspapers/magazines/journals to prepare the Collage. The creative, innovative ideas of students were vividly visible during the competition. The best three teams were declared as the winners and cash prizes and certificates were awarded to them during the formal prize distribution function. Shri. Piyush D. Sinha, Mr. Allan D’cruz and Mr. Murti Kumar Singh were the Judges for the competition.

Shri. Piyush D. Sinha, Financial Consultant & Entrepreneur, Vasco, Chief Guest, praised the students for their creative thinking. The student leaders of the Executive Committee of Commerce Association were felicitated by the Chief Guest.

Sail, Coordinator of the Commerce Association Ms. Safal Suresh Narvekar, President of Student Executive Committee of Commerce Association Mr. Prashant Pramod Tawde, Vice President of Student Executive Committee of Commerce Association, Ms. Debangana Ghosh were also present. The event was compeered by student volunteers Ms. Divya Rawat and Ms. Dhanashri Sancolkar. The activity was designed and planned to attract maximum participation of students to ensure their inclusive growth and development which is the main objective of the Commerce Association.
