Reader's
Club of MES College of Arts and Commerce for the year 2015-16 was recently
inaugurated at the hands of Jnanpith Awardee Padmashri Prof. Bhalchandra
Nemade. In his address to the audience, Nemade emphasized on the role of
reading in the development of personality, language and thereby of the nation.
He explicated the importance of mother tongue, how it acts as an empowerment
tool for an individual. Nemade has recently received the 50th Jnanpith Award
for his writing in Marathi at the hands of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Currently, Nemade occupies the Sant Soiroba Ambiye Chair at the Department of
Marathi, Goa University.
The gathering was
welcomed by the Principal Dr. R.B Patil. It was presided over by the Chairman
of Murgaon Education Society Shri M S Kamat and was also attended by Vice
Chairman Shri Paresh Joshi and Director of Planning and Development, Smt.
Lalita Joshi. Dr. Cidalia Bodade, Chairperson of the Reader’s Club introduced
the Chief Guest Prof Nemade. Vice Principal Shri V V Sail offered a floral
welcome to the Chief Guest. Mr. Sudhir Halvegar, the College Librarian
introduced the Reader's Club. Dr. Susan Deborah proposed the vote of thanks.
Ms. Palia Gaonkar compeered the function. The function was attended in large numbers by
both the students and the teachers.
The Reader’s Club was
introduced by the College to encourage and inculcate reading habits in the
students of the college. It comprises of Chairperson Dr. Cidalia Bodade,
Librarian Shri Sudhir Halvegar, Prof. Shivani Shirodkar, Dr. Susan Deborah,
Prof. Shilpa Tanna and Prof. Palia Gaonkar.
