The
Psychology Department of M.E.S College organized a ‘Music Therapy Workshop’ as part of it’s
Community Outreach Program on stress reduction for neighboring school students
of Vasco on the 1st of August,
2015. The resource person for the workshop was Ms. Aarti Sinha, a musical
therapist. Students from Airways Public School, Zuarinagar, St. Joseph’s
School, Sancoale and Goa Bhavan’s School, Upasnagar participated in this
interactive workshop.
Principal
Dr. R.B Patil, in his welcome address emphasized the need for students to learn
techniques to de-stress in this competitive world. According to him, the
students of today face a lot of academic strain, besides trying to keep up with
parental expectations and peer pressure.
The
purpose of this workshop was to incorporate music’s
versatility as a therapeutic medium. Music therapy is a
psychotherapeutic method that uses musical interaction as a means of communication
and expression. It is an interpersonal process in which the therapist uses
music and all its facets- physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic and
spiritual, to help clients to improve, restore or maintain health. Ms. Rafiah
Shaikh compered the inaugural function while Ms. Cedila Pereira e Gomes,
in-charge of the Psychology Department introduced the resource person to the
august gathering.
